EL CABANYAL COMMUNITY LIBRARY
An extension of the homes of El Cabanyal, Valencia.
A library that comprises of a space where people learn, a space where people meet and a place where books live. A space for gathering is created on the streets of El Cabanyal. It acts as an extension of the home as well as a creative hub for the old fishing community in Valencia.
Since the 1970s, the locals of El Cabanyal have been battling against gentrification which led to an increase in civil unrest, violence and degradation of infrastructure. In 2016, Joan Ribó was elected as mayor and began to increase funding for cultural initiatives and public services: Teatre El Musical serves as an example of this increased funding.
